Morgan City Man Gets Jail Time on Assumption Parish Drug Charges

         On November 15, 2016, Drake Geisler of Morgan City, LA., age 22, pled guilty to the charges of Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution, Theft Valued at $750 or more, but Less than $5000, Conspiracy to Commit Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Conspiracy to Commit Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution. Geisler was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg. This plea was a result of a plea agreement with the prosecuting attorney.

          On January 15, 2015 while on patrol in the Bayou L’Ourse area, an Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a GMC pickup truck after observing the vehicle traveling on LA 662 in the rain with no headlights on. Upon initiating the stop, deputies made contact with the driver of the vehicle who was identified as Drake Geisler. Deputies asked Geisler if there was anything on his person or in his vehicle that they needed to know about. Geisler then gave deputies consent to search the vehicle. Deputies did a brief pat down of Geisler for officer safety. During the pat down, deputies located a small plastic baggie containing heroin in Geisler’s pant pocket. During a search of the vehicle, deputies also located 2 Clonazepam pills, which Geisler was not legally in possession of. Geisler was subsequently arrested on charges including Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance.

          Upon arrival at the Assumption Parish Detention Center, Geisler was strip searched to assure that there were no more illegal items on his person. During the search, a small plastic baggie containing marijuana fell from Geisler’s buttocks area. Geisler was then additionally charged with Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution.

          On May 29, 2016, Agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries observed the operator of a boat on an Assumption Parish waterway commit a boating violation. Agents stopped the boat and made contact with the operator who was identified as Drake Geisler. During the stop, agents noticed that Geisler appeared to be very nervous. When asked if there were any illegal items in the boat, Geisler admitted that he was in possession of illegal narcotics. Agents were able to locate a small quantity of methamphetamine in the boat operated by Geisler. Geisler was then arrested on charges including Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance.

          On May 19, 2016, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Bayou L’Ourse regarding a theft. Upon making contact with the victim, it was learned that an unknown male subject was observed taking a purse containing miscellaneous items from under the victim’s carport. Through further investigation, deputies were able to determine that Drake Geisler was responsible for the theft. On July 26, 2016, Geisler was arrested on a warrant for the charge of Theft Valued at $750 or more, but less than $5000.

          On September 28, 2016, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office Correctional Officers located a suspicious package outside of the parish detention center. Upon taking possession of the package, detectives were contacted and observed the items in the package. The package contained multiple items including marijuana, tobacco, rolling papers, and cigarettes. Through the course of an in depth investigation, detectives learned that Drake Geisler, who was incarcerated at the time, had been in contact with individuals outside of the facility in attempt to smuggle contraband into the jail. Geisler was subsequently booked on the charges of Criminal Conspiracy to Possess a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and Criminal Conspiracy to Possess or Introduce Contraband into a Penal Institution.

          Upon entering a guilty plea to the above charges as per the plea agreement with prosecutors, Judge Stromberg ordered that Geisler be committed to the Louisiana Department of Corrections at hard labor for a total of 8 years. On the charge of Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, Geisler was sentenced to 8 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance, Geisler was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Geisler was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution, Geisler was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Theft Valued at $750 or more, but Less Than $5,000, Geisler was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Conspiracy to Commit Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, Geisler was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Conspiracy to Commit Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution, Geisler was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections. All of the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another.
