On September 9, 2019, Kelly Cavalier of 126 Rene St. Pierre Part, LA., age 36, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 counts). Cavalier was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following separate arrests.
On June 17, 2018, a patrol deputy with the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing a violation. Upon making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, deputies observed the front seat passenger, Kelly Cavalier, to be nervous and combative. A K-9 was deployed to conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle which yielded a positive alert for narcotics. During a search of the interior of the vehicle, deputies located a quantity of methamphetamine in the front passenger area. Cavalier was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center. The driver of the vehicle was cited for traffic violations.
On May 23, 2019, narcotics agents with the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a Bertrandville residence as part of an on-going narcotics investigation. Upon making entry into the residence, agents located quantities of methamphetamine. Both individuals located inside the residence, Kelly Cavalier and Bruce Knockum, were arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center.
Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Cavalier was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
