St. James Parish Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Burglary and Drug Possession

On March 25, 2024, Michael Laiche of 3599 LA 3125 Paulina, LA, age 41, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. Laiche was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam Koenig, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge James Kuhn. This guilty plea comes following a plea in connection with a 2022 arrest. Laiche was sentenced under a habitual offender bill filed by the District Attorney’s Office.

On November 5, 2022, St. James Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an industrial warehouse in reference to two unknown subjects being present on the premises. As employees approached the subjects, the two unknown subjects fled on foot into a nearby cane field. Deputies established a perimeter around the field and deployed both a drone and K-9. Shortly after, with the assistance of the K-9, Michael Laiche was detained and identified as one of the two unknown male subjects on the premises. A second subject was apprehended shortly after. During a canvass of the area, detectives observed a black back near a cut fence surrounding the site where entry had been made onto the premises. Detectives executed a search warrant on the backpack and located personal identifiers for Michael Laiche along with drug paraphernalia and a quantity of methamphetamine. Michael Laiche was arrested and booked into the St. James Parish Jail.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, Laiche, who is a 4th Felony Offender, was sentenced under the habitual offender bill to 20 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
