On November 27, 2023, Shamar Harris of 1281 Magnolia Heights Vacherie, LA, age 25, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Harris was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam Koenig, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a 2022 traffic stop.
On July 23, 2022, St. James Parish Sheriff’s Deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing vehicle violations. Upon making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, deputies observed a handgun in plain view. For officer safety, deputies took possession of the handgun. During a records check of the occupants, deputies learned that one of the passengers, Shamar Harris, was a convicted felon. Harris has a 2017 conviction for Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and a 2019 conviction for Simple Burglary. Harris was on probation at the time of this incident. During a search of the vehicle, deputies located a second handgun in the immediate vicinity of where Harris was seated inside the vehicle. Harris was arrested and transported to the St. James Parish Jail where he was booked accordingly.
Upon entering a guilty plea to the above mentioned charge, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Harris was sentenced to 15 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
