SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of April 11-April 15, 2016, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

 

  1. Melvin Cox, 41152 Merritt Evans Rd. Prairieville, LA., age 28, pled guilty to 2 counts of Theft valued at $750 or more, but less than $5000. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count, to run concurrent with one another.

 

  1. Tyler Trammell, 44165 Bayou Blvd. St. Amant, LA., age 22, pled guilty to Simple Burglary. The defendant was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.

 

  1. Derrick Viator, 37173 Cobblestone Dr. Geismar, LA., age 31, pled guilty to DWI 4th Offense, and was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. The defendant is to serve 2 years of the imposed sentence. Upon release, the remaining 8 years are to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on supervised probation for a term of 5 years.

 

  1. Derick Moran, 15154 Palomino Dr. Prairieville, LA., age 25, pled guilty to Obscenity, and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.

 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Amy Colby and Phil Maples. The Honorable Judge Jason Vertigets and the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert presided over these matters.
