SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of March 25 – March 29, 2024, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish: 

  1. On October 30, 2023, an Ascension Parish Jury found 44-year-old Peggy Valentine of 42 Vatican Dr. Donaldsonville, LA, guilty of Attempted 1st Degree Murder and Home Invasion. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On March 26, 2024, Valentine was sentenced to 20 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Brant Mayer, Kristin Tregre, and Phil Maples. Presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin. 

Assumption Parish: 

  1. Dwayne James, 36114 Hwy 38 Mount Hermon, LA, age 38, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Alfred Adams, 2968 Hwy 1 Labadieville, LA, age 46, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and Transactions Involving Drug Proceeds. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Javonne Amacker, 124 Joaquin Dr. Houma, LA, age 29, pled guilty to Attempted Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney and Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Keyojuan Turner. 

  1. Stephanie Manso, 11160 Avila Dr. Hammond, LA, age 36, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation. 
  1. Samantha Joe Chenevert, 113 A Raceway Ct. Belle Rose, LA, age 39, pled guilty to Theft Valued at $5,000 or More, but Less than $25,000 and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisianan Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. 

St. James Parish: 

  1. Michael Laiche, 3599 LA 3125 Paulina, LA, age 41, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. Laiche, who is a 4th Felony Offender was sentenced under the habitual offender bill to 20 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam Koenig, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge James Kuhn.
