SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

Gonzales Man to Serve 20 Years in Connection with 2020 Fatal Crash

On March 20, 2024, Lawrence Furlow of 41234 Lakefront Ave. Gonzales, LA, age 56, pled guilty to Negligent Homicide and DWI 4th Offense. Furlow was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Leila Braswell, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Steven Tureau. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors in connection with a 2020 fatal crash which claimed the life of 33-year-old Jarrod Miller, also of Gonzales.

On August 8, 2020, Louisiana State Troopers responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA 74 North of I-10 in Ascension Parish. Upon arrival, troopers located a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe in the roadway with front end damage along with a red Honda motorcycle in a field adjacent to the roadway. Troopers learned that Furlow, the driver of the Tahoe crossed the centerline and struck the motorcycle operated by Jarrod Miller. Miller was ejected from the motorcycle and ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Troopers obtained blood samples from both drivers which were submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Furlow, who was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the crash was subsequently arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Furlow was sentenced to 20 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
