SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of March 28 – April 1, 2016, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

1.    Ahmad Johnson, 39014 Jupiter St. Darrow LA. 70725, age 36, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous substance and Possession of Marijuana 1st offense. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Shawn Bush. The presiding judge was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert.

St. James Parish:

1.    Carla Chesnut, 5305 Lancaster Dr. Odessa, TX. 79762, age 42, pled guilty to Illegal Possession of Stolen Things and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation.

2.    Michael Tolbert, 5305 Lancaster Dr. Odessa, TX. 79762, age 31, pled guilty to Illegal Possession of Stolen Things and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Steven Tureau. The presiding judge was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg.

In other court related matters, one defendant was sentenced following an October conviction in 23rd Judicial District Court, parish of Assumption.

On October 29, 2015, Gwendolyn Simon of 168 Virginia St. Belle Rose, LA. 70341, age 29, was found guilty by an Assumption Parish Jury of one count of L.R.S. 14:34 Aggravated Battery. Per the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets, sentencing on this matter was deferred to March 30, 2016. Simon was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation.

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle. The presiding judge was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets.
